BEFORE A Weather Emergency...Plan Ahead!
>Permanently ID your dog or cat with a microchip. Be sure your pet is wearing a collar with your current phone number AND an out of town contact’s phone number (in case your local phone is out due to the weather).
>Have at least a two week supply of your pet’s food and medications ready to go in a waterproof, easy to carry container. Don’t forget to include your pet’s water requirements when figuring your hurricane supplies.
>Put copies of your pet’s recent Vet Visit summaries including shot records in a ziplock bag and put that in with the food.
Make sure your pets have been vaccinated within the past 12 months.
Pet shelters may require proof of these:

Feline leukemia
Rhinotracheitis
Calici virus
Panleukopenia
DURING A Weather Emergency...Take Action!
>Bring your pet indoors well in advance of the storm. Reassure him with a soothing voice and calm manner. Be the pack leader!
>Call ahead and get current information on pet-friendly shelters. Pet Spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis. Know where you will go with your pet while you still have time to plan.
All animals brought to a pet shelter are required to have:
>Collar with proper ID tag, county registration and rabies tags
>Proper ID on all belongings
>Carrier / crate (large enough for dog to stand up and turn around)
>Leash
>Ample food and water supply (at least three days)
>Water/food bowls
>Any necessary medication(s)
>Specific care instructions (i.e.,medication, diet, etc.)
>Potty-Pads or Newspapers, plastic “poop bags” for handling dog waste
>Litter Box and additional Litter for cats
>Plastic trash bags to put store soiled litter, Potty-Pads and “poop bags"
>Hand Sanitizer and Wipes and Paper Towels to keep area clean

Below is a list of Veterinary Clinics and Hospital who will board your pets during a Hurricane. All of them will charge their standard fees and you are responsible for payment. The number in parenthesis indicates the number of pets they can accept. Make your arrangements early.
South Tampa – Downtown – Harbour Island – Davis Island residents take note: There are no Veterinary Clinic/Hospitals in your areas who can remain open during a Hurricane Evacuation.
